14 Teams to Compete at Regional Middle School Science Bowl

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

St. Paul, MN [February 2, 2022] – On Saturday, February 12, 14 teams of middle school students will compete virtually in the 2022 middle school Minnesota Regional Science Bowl. This regional competition, which showcases science and math knowledge, is organized annually by the Minnesota Academy of Science (MAS). The winning team advances to the spring National Science Bowl, sponsored by the U.S. Department of Energy.

During Science Bowl, students compete in teams to solve technical problems and answer high-level questions. The tournament’s virtual format is a fast-paced, Q&A where teams with the highest scores advance to the next round of competition. Science Bowl allows students who are passionate about math and science to increase their knowledge in these subjects while also gaining teamwork skills and confidence.

"We are proud to once again facilitate the Minnesota middle school Science Bowl, which is so important in encouraging science and math learning,” commented MAS Executive Director Lara Maupin. “Each year, we are impressed by the knowledge and passion these students bring to the competition. Seeing the high levels of teamwork and perseverance displayed by these middle schoolers is inspiring."

Founded in 1873, the MAS is a statewide 501(c)3 nonprofit organization dedicated to providing opportunities for Minnesotans of all backgrounds to engage in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) learning, inquiry, research, and networking. MAS sponsors STEM education programs and events for students in elementary school through college. MAS coordinates the annual Science Bowl with the help of dozens of volunteers and with generous support from Ecolab, General Mills, Hardenbergh Foundation, the Minnesota Department of Education, and the United States Department of Energy.

The middle schools planning on participating in the 2022 Science Bowl are: Benilde-St. Margaret's School, Heritage E-Stem Magnet School, Lake Middle School, Parnassus Preparatory School-Logic, Rosemount Middle School, Sandburg Middle School, Wayzata Central Middle School, Wayzata East Middle School, and Wayzata West Middle School.
