Please note that the North Central Regional Junior Science & Humanities Symposium was scheduled for separate date and location than that of State Science & Engineering Fair 2019 (State Science & Engineering Fair 2019 was held March 30-31, 2019 at Earle Brown Heritage Center)

The North Central Regional Junior Science and Humanities Symposia (JSHS) Program (an excellence program) promotes original research and experimentation in the sciences, engineering, and mathematics at the high school level and publicly recognizes students for outstanding achievement. JSHS aims to widen the pool of trained talent prepared to conduct vital research and development.

The Minnesota Academy of Science (MAS) has hosted the North Central Regional Junior Science & Humanities Symposium since 1968 as part of our continuum of science education programming (Access to Excellence). The first National JSHS competition was held in 1962.

At JSHS, students prepare and present research papers, based on months of scientific research, to a group of scientific judges. The top five paper presentations are selected to advance to National JSHS, held in late April or early May. Students win an all-expense paid trip to compete against high school students representing the U.S., Puerto Rico, and the Department of Defense Dependent Schools of Europe and the Pacific.

Because JSHS is sponsored in part by the U.S. Army, which has strict privacy rules, MAS cannot list winners by name or school.

Personally Identifiable Information and Social Media

During JSHS, please do not post any Personally Identifiable Information (PII) (e.g. name, school, hometown, etc...) to official Minnesota Academy of Science social media accounts, including Facebook and Twitter, relating to yourself or any other students or individuals participating in JSHS so that we may adhere to the newly released rules by Army Educational Outreach Program (AEOP) requiring the protection of PII at JSHS.
